Localization & translation agencies

Find a partner to translate your product, launch a multilingual website or adapt marketing for a new market. Compare the work each service covers, then browse agency profiles.

Match the agency to the work

A product team shipping every week needs a different setup from a marketing team translating its website. These three examples show what to compare before approaching the full directory below.

How to choose a localization agency

Translation, localization or transcreation?

Translation changes the language of your text. Localization also adapts the experience: date formats, currencies, screenshots, layouts and the way people use the product. Transcreation gives a writer room to change a headline or campaign idea so it makes sense in the target market. Specify which work you need; a translated document is not the same deliverable as a tested product release.

Compare the complete quote

Send each agency the same source files, target locales, word count, update frequency and deadline. Ask for separate prices for the initial project and ongoing changes. A per-word rate alone will not tell you what the launch costs.

  • Confirm the billing unit: source words, characters, hours or a subscription. Ask about minimum charges and repeated text.
  • Separate translation from proofreading, project management, engineering and testing in the running product.
  • For machine translation with human editing, specify which content gets reviewed, by whom and against what acceptance criteria.
  • Include translation-platform fees, CMS connectors, hosting and support where needed. Confirm ownership and export of translated files, glossaries and translation memories.

Run a pilot that resembles the real job

Our suggested pilot is one important customer journey in one target language: a landing page, signup flow, product screen and related help article. Include a long label, an error message and a product term that needs consistent wording. Have a qualified reviewer assess meaning and tone, then test the flow on mobile and desktop.

Agree beforehand on how errors are logged, who corrects them and whether a second review is included. Judge the agency on the returned work and how it handles corrections, not just the first turnaround time.

Questions for the first call

  1. Can you show a comparable project in our industry and target locale?
  2. How will new content reach your translators, and how will finished work return to our system?
  3. Who approves terminology and resolves disagreements with our local team?
  4. What happens when a release is delayed or a translation breaks a layout?
  5. What files, access and ongoing costs remain if we change providers?

For a website launch, also establish who owns local keyword research and search setup. Compare SEO agencies if that work needs a separate specialist.
